Don’t Let Bundy and his Seditious Militia Convince Lawmakers to Give Away our Public Lands!

By now you have probably heard about the Bundy Militia which has taken over and is occupying under threat of violence the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge near Burns, Oregon.   These disgruntled ranchers, loggers and miners have decided that federal public lands belong to them and no-one else. Even though ranching, mining and logging are all presently allowed on the vast majority of public lands, subsidized to a ridiculous degree by American taxpayers (for example in Oregon it costs approximately $17 a month to graze one cow and calf on private land but only $1.69 on federal land) and most often at great expense to the environment – it is not enough for these gun totting bullies.  They want ownership of these lands transferred to the States and ultimately given to them for their exploitation and they are willing to take up arms against their own government to make that happen.

Their behavior is frightening and despicable and should not be condoned, but what is even more disconcerting is that some of our U.S. Congressional Members and Senators are actually sympathizing with these militant criminals, and intend to use this armed insurrection to push for selling off our federal public lands to private interests.

1 – Please call your member of Congress and your Senators today and tell them that what the Bundy Militia is doing is wrong and the people involved should be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law; and

2 –  Public lands are important to you!  This type of armed insurrection should not be the basis for divesting the American public of their natural heritage.  To permit such lawless and terrifying action to dictate policy in this country would set a dangerous precedent and would erode the very fabric of our government.  Anything short of full opposition to any legislation which turns these terrorist demands into law would be unacceptable.
